The annual Sea Blessing in Wenduine is a beautiful tradition that takes place every Whit Monday.
What can you expect during the Sea Blessing in Wenduine?
- Ceremony: This unique ceremony honours the sea, the fishermen, and the Holy Cross, which according to legend was fished up by the fishermen of Blankenberge. This special event brings locals and visitors together for a day full of culture, music, and culinary delights.
- Sea Blessing: The day begins with a Holy Mass in the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, followed by the Sea Blessing on the beach near De Rotonde. Here the sea is blessed – a moment of gratitude and respect for the sea and its riches.
- Procession through the Village: After the Sea Blessing, a festive procession returns from De Rotonde to the church. The procession, accompanied by music and local participants, brings the centuries-old legend of the Holy Cross to life.
